It’s All About the…Groom!

February 19 2018 by convey

Weddings are known far and wide as being “the bride’s day,” but that’s really just half the story! It’s also the groom’s day, and he should be just as involved and excited. While there are hundreds of thousands of lists and posts for brides getting ready for their big day, there just aren’t that many for the men in the picture, so let’s fix that just a little. Hey groom, this one is for you!

It’s All About the...groom!

The Tux

While shopping for a tuxedo doesn’t come with quite the overwhelming amount of options as does shopping for a wedding dress, there are a number of factors to keep in mind. The wedding colors, for one, will play into your choice, which can be as pronounced as a cummerbund or as small as a pocket square. There is also the color of the suit itself: Do you opt for a traditional black, a wedding white, a well-matched neutral, or a bold color? While you want to match your bride and compliment the wedding, make sure you don’t sacrifice your own comfort and satisfaction.

The Vows and the Toast

Whether you write your own vows and your toast, or just one or the other, you are definitely going to be up and speaking in front of people on your day, so make sure you’re prepared. If you’re not a natural maestro of prose, don’t feel obligated to write your own vows, or feel free to keep them short and truly from the heart. For the toast, a little levity is great, but do make sure to give it a second and third read over and maybe pare down the sheer number of jokes. Make sure to thank the right people, and relish your time in the spotlight.

Take Some Time for You and Your Partner

Yes, you two are going to be in a whirlwind of activity all day, and you will have a pretty tight schedule to stick to, but don’t forget that this is your day and you should make sure to enjoy it. Don’t let the stress get to you. Step away for a few minutes to remain centered and ensure you’re actually enjoying and taking in the occasion. Make some time for you and your partner to be together, basking in happiness, so your memories of the wedding are light and happy and not rushed and stressed.

Get in Those Photographs

Yes, there will be a lot of ‘bride/bridal party only’ photo sessions, but don’t be afraid to make sure you are in many other pictures. When you and your partner look back at pictures, you would like to remember that both of you were there and happy. Schedule some groomsmen party shots, too, get some solo groom portraits, buddy up with your bride, and make sure to not only have serious shots but sneak some fun and levity in as well.

Remember Groom It’s Your Day, Too

Aside from your partner, there will be all kinds of pressure on you from family and friends to do things a certain way, invite certain people, say certain things. Just remember: if it’s not what you and your partner want or if it’s something you’re not comfortable with, don’t do it!

Grooms, support your partner, help things go smoothly, but, most importantly, remember not to let yourselves get lost in the shuffle. There is no wedding without you, after all, so set some time aside and enjoy your day just the way you want to.
